N222 -The Douro Road

Day 1 - Porto

In the morning we will take a walk through the Vitória neighborhood, outside the traditional tourist routes where one breathes the true soul of Porto. We will begin this tour in front of the University of Porto, a key spot where academic festivities and the typical celebrations of the city such as S. João take place.

Here you will have the opportunity to get to see some of the most emblematic monuments, such as Lello Bookshop and Clérigos Tower while enjoying the most beautiful views of Porto, accompanied by our local guide who will present you the corners, streets, and people in the most authentic possible way.

Already in Porto downtown, you will be able to visit the centenary Aliados main avenue, a place that has been accommodating various political demonstrations, football celebrations and New Year concerts until these days.

São Bento Train Station Porto Tour

Here we will show you other incredible relics, such as the beautiful S. Bento train station decorated by its twenty thousand tiles, the exquisite Majestic café adorned with carved wood and Art Nouveau elements, and one of Portugal’s oldest monuments, the fabulous Porto Cathedral.

After a francesinha or Pulled Pork sandwich lunch, you will then have the opportunity to tour one of the Porto Wine Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and taste the Porto Wine. For the remainder of the afternoon, you will be able to relax and enjoy the views aboard the Tesla and start the National 222 trip, until we arrive at the Douro Valley. Along the way, we will stop at some viewpoints, with multiple photo opportunities*.

Dinner will be served at Quinta de Ventozelo, also your accommodation for the evening.

*please note this is a very long drive, considering the distance - 3h to cover 140km (87mi). Alternatively, we will take the highway.

Day 2 - Douro Valley

Douro Valley Quinta Tedo Bistro Terrace

Boat transfer from Quinta de Ventozelo in the morning towards the village of Pinhão, where you will admire the small train station of the village, illustrating the traditions of the Douro Valley.

We will continue our tour up to the village of Casal de Loivos. There we will learn about the olive oil-making process by visiting D’Origem, a small, family-owned facility turned into a museum. Here we will taste some of the products of this small producer.

Lunch will be served at Quinta de La Rosa - at their Clara’s Kitchen a small, hidden, gastronomic gem of the valley. After lunch we will head to Quinta Seara D’Ordens for a final, Porto wine tasting.

We will the return to Quinta de Ventozelo to enjoy the rest of the day and evening.

Day 3 - Vila Nova de Foz Côa

Departure from the Hotel towards the Foz Côa Museum. During the morning you will take a 4x4 vehicle to visit one of the Rock Art sites of Foz Côa, considered a Unesco World Heritage site and also the largest open-air museum in the World.

Lunch will be served at the Museum’s restaurant, along with a tasting of wines and other regional products from the Douro Superior.

After lunch, you will enjoy a guided tour of the Museum, an architectural marvel in inner Portugal, and learn more about the history of the different peoples that settled the Côa Valley.

After the museum tour, we will head back to Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia.

This adventure is the perfect 3 to 4-day escape for a short city and countryside break and can be enjoyed on an extended weekend.
