Douro: Culture & Scenery
When wine is not a priority, there is a rich cultural aspect of the Douro Valley and plenty of good views worth exploring.
The day starts when we pick you up. After a 1h15 trip, we will arrive at our first destination: the village of Cumieira in Santa Marta de Penaguião. Here we have “Idades da Terra”, a small, family owned museum of the Tapada family, where you can learn about the geological history of the Valley, how that shaped the region; and learn about the different people that lived in the area.
After this tour, we will head out to Quinta de Ventozelo, the Crown Jewel of the Gran Cruz Corporation, where lunch will be served. Their “Farm to Fork” concept was considered in 2021 by National Geographic as one of the 3 best Gastronomical experiences in the world.
Lunch will be paired with 3 wines of the Estate.
After, we will lean more about the wine production, by visiting the Interpretative Center of the Estate, the old distillery and grain mill.
In our last stop we will visit the Mateus Palace, a baroque architectural wonder, a portal into the ancient history of Portugal, Europe and the world. It is the centre of a wind rose, both a point of confluence and a prolific source of people, ideas, stories, documents and artefacts.
The return trip will take 1h, during which time you will be able to relax in the comfort of the Tesla.
